July Love! Foster the People's Sacred Hearts Club

My first moment listening to FTP was when I was in Melbourne, Australia for a week during 2011. I remember hearing Pumped Up Kicks everywhere I go, ranging from supermarkets to small retail stores. It made me go crazy because of the catchiness. Ever since then, I'm always obsessed onto their music. I've grew more love towards their work when I watched their live tour on videos. The process of building beats and tunes before really singing the song was truly mesmerizing. Their passion and cooperation was simply amazing and I've been wanting to be just like them: talented.

A brief intro to their albums:
i. Torches : This album has a very innocent tune but contains hints of darkness in the lyrics.
ii. Supermodel : This album gives me a sense of mental-breakdown relief with psycho-sense tunes that many would not be able to understand.
iii. Sacred Hearts Club : This album sounded like their band's progress throughout these years had grown mature with sick beats and deeper meanings behind the lyrics. Some of the songs were noticeably darker too, as compared to previous albums.

FTP has an odd selection for song names and sometimes they don't really give exact impression of how those songs sounded like. Here are a list of their songs with lyrics quotes that had caught my attention. I had my own interpretation of these songs but decided to keep some to myself since they don't really fit the song's interpretation fully.

1. Pay the Man

"The root of the song is the idea of finding hope and love in hard times. This theme is influenced in particular by the tough times the world is facing right now, and many lines can be interpreted as commentary on the world’s political situations. Aside from the critiquing aspect of it, overall it emphasizes the idea of ‘after rain comes a rainbow.'" - Zestychild

2. Doing it for the Money

"The lyrics refer to living life to the fullest and being driven by experiences, whether positive or negative, as opposed to money." - ZestyChild

3. Sit Next to Me

"The song is about Foster trying to reach this girl, maybe an ex-lover, and doing things right by letting the relation flow between each other." - Camve

4. SHC

"The subject matter of the song is both a person with whom Mark has a relationship, and God. Many of the lyrics can be applied to either entities. The relationship aspect of the song captures the wonder of loving someone and struggling to overcome the loss when they leave and the presence of God is explored through his “omnipotence.”" - ZestyChild

5. I Love My Friends

A happy-go-lucky song about the singer's platonic love towards his friends even though they may not feel the same or may not have the best traits as compared to other people.

6. Static Space Lover

The couple speaks about a toxic yet alluring relationship, referring it as a never ending struggle which had dragged for too long.

"It is about two lovers that stay on the same point in their relationship. Foster makes a comparison between their relationship and the ‘static space’ using metaphors like eclipses and constellations." - Camve

8. Lotus Eater

"Nowadays, the term refers to someone who indulges in pleasure and luxury as opposed to practical affairs. In the song, both Mark and the woman fit this description- Mark has lost himself in drug addiction, and the woman is preoccupied with finding someone to spend her nights with. These situations also reflect that of in the Odyssey: the addictions Mark and the woman have are alike the addiction Odysseus' men had with the Lotus plants, and they must break free of them in order to move on with their lives." - ZestyChild

9. Time to Get Closer

The singer describes the difficulty to open up to a particular someone and hoping for a mutual feeling.

10. Loyal like Sid and Nancy

This song has a lot of real-life references which are both agitating but happening. Some of the references are similar to idolization, corruption, greed for power and lack of humanity.

"Released on June 29, 2017, Loyal Like Sid & Nancy is a heavy Hip Hop inducing track with trap flavored beats. The title refers to Sid Viscious, former bassist of The Sex Pistols who died of heroin overdose in early ‘79 and his destructive relationship with his girlfriend Nancy, who was murdered, with Sid as the main suspect." - AwolFoster2015

11. Harden the Paint

"Despite multiple interpretations that can be taken from the song title “Harden the Paint”. Listening to the lyrics creates a powerful image that makes the message clear, Mark is referencing that much like wet paint before it drys, things are uncertain, paint can get all over. She’s a “beautiful design” He’s saying to his love to harden the paint “lay back and catch the light”. This meaningful title becomes most clearly understood during the outro as well as the harmonious background vocals, he’s hoping that she won’t wash away and just might harden the paint." - EricBuzz

12. III

"It’s about facing your own mortality, realizing that we only have so much time to live but that we have to make the most of that short time. The song also talks about wanting someone to be there through that journey too." - itsmarquitos

Music Talk| UsTheDuo in Malaysia! 2015

Anyone who knows this couple would swoon whenever they listen to their music.
Us The Duo is Relationship Goal that everyone in the world would agree and I kid you not, I too want a relationship like theirs.

I've been following their news since... idk how many years ago and to be honest, this couple's genre is special to me. If you've listened to it, you may find it relatable even though you have not started any love relationships in your entire life. (that's me btw)

The very next day after they announced their live show performance, I bought the set of CD+2Tickets immediate since
1. Its affordable. 2. It's a Sunday but I'm on a semester break. 3. I DO NO CARE HOW FAR IT IS FROM MY PLACE.

I would just, go and enjoy it no matter what.

So it began on the day of 5th July, around 11am. I reached the area and decided to shop until 3pm but guess what, people are already lining up. The show starts at 8pm and people are already lining up at 3pm.

I have a lot to say about this even actually, if you know me well, you'll know that I usually talk about the down side of a specific thing.
Yes. There is something that made me angry during the show very, very much.

Fan girls and boys lining up at 3pm is one thing, I don't mind. I mean the reason why I went there earlier is just to make sure I get the front spot, since I'm like 150cm tall. I can't see sh*t if people are blocking me. But hey you know what, since I have a lot to talk about, I'll just list it down instead of making it into paragraphs. (Oh yes, I'm not afraid to talk about it because you know why? I F*CKIN PAID TO WATCH IT.)

1. The staffs/crew sucks ballz.
- Lack of unity
- Lack of controlling power
- Obviously lack of experience
-Summary: The staffs looked like they don't even know what they are doing so, why bother working? The worst case is when they cannot control the crowd while allowing them to go in. I mean, I came in first and was at the 4th line while waiting outside. You people said we can go in first but guess what? The people from the back cut queues. I. Hate. It. I f*cking hate it. I waited for at least 7 hours long AND YOU LET THOSE WHO JUST CAME TO GO IN FIRST? Well, f*ck you. Also, I bought the set too? So, why let those who came later and have the physical tickets to line up first, instead of us who can already line up? Boot your system up at least 4 hours earlier please. I don't care if you start the ticket distributing later, just. do. it.

2. The crowds are people who lack of morality and manners
-Cut Queues
- Keep adding their friends into the line
- Does not think of other people
-Summary: I was f*ckin blocked by this couple who cuddled since the beginning of the show till the end of it. What do you want, hunney? I really can't see anything at all and I pitied the girl who is way shorter than me who stood right behind them. UGH. As for cutting queues, *exhale* I don't wanna talk about those f*cktards anymore. At least I asked whether people around me can see them or not.

BUT. Let's just skip to the best parts, alright?
So, USTHEDUOOOO~~!
The ticket is actually not bad, instead of making it complicating, they made it more simpler than other shows. The CD was imported (and wrapped by papers with Chinese words...), so it has the importing sticker on it along with a layer of plastic wrap. We were told to take it off so they can sign the inside of the album. The tee shirts were labeled with at least $20 dollar in their store but they sold it for Rm35 per piece. (ITS HELLA CHEAP FOR A YOUTUBER'S MERCH.) I've also got the poster that the crew distributed if we followed the Universal Music Malaysia Instagram account.

Let's go to the other part, THE USTHEDUO SESSION!
I swear to god, Michael has an extremely gorgeous pair of eyes and Carissa is so, so, so, so beautiful!
They looked unreal to me, like, they are so perfect looking.
When they sing, I thought they were playing back records but NO, they are singing it for real. Their voices are so angelic that, I thought maybe the system enhanced their voices. It's so genuine and unique that I still cannot shake off the fact that their voices are better in live than in recordings.

When it's my turn to go up the stage and present my CD for them to sign, I made a small conversation with them. It goes like this:
Me: So hows the weather?
Michael: It's.... not as hot as I thought actually :) I thought it would be hotter but it's not
Carissa: Yeah :)
Me: Really? O.O I thought it would be because uhm.. *stunned by Michael's eyes* I.. don't know.. heh
Michael: Well, its really not so hot here *chuckle*
(and then I'm forced to leave.)

Here's a playlist of the videos :)

(Includes: Make You Mine, Til the Morning Comes, Slow Down time, Like I'm Gonna Lose You, Sway, Missing You Like Crazy, Top 2014 and No Matter Where You Are.)
(The only thing I own is my video recordings, other than that, the songs are not mine.)

Well, to be honest, I had a great time with them. I love them.
I would say that this event is half great and half bad but.. I would just like to remain in the happy state of where both of these lovebirds are as unique as Tori Kelly. Both my style of beauty in many ways.

And yes, I would love to have them back in Malaysia please, Adam the manager :)

January Love! Hoshi No Utsuwa aka Star Vessel by Sukima Switch!

Beginning the music talk starting from this year and let's get the love going on and on!

This month features the most famous soundtrack of all time in the history of Kishimoto Masashi's all-time masterpiece, Naruto!
If you noticed, I deliberately drew a scarf on Naruto as
Hinata had made him a red winter scarf as her sign of love in Naruto: The Last.
If you're like me -or not like me-, a fan of Naruto series will never miss the last movie that puts a full stop to Naruto Uzumaki's legend. Now this does sound a bit too much but Naruto Uzumaki has been, like, the most heroic hero that I've ever seen! (Also, he's quite the dumbest.) Kishimoto has been working with this series for FIFTEEN YEARS, yes, 15 years, and now he's starting a new era which features the son of Naruto, Bolt(Boruto) and I'm a bit sad to accept that fact... lettin it sink...

I must admit, before a few weeks of catching back about 200++ episodes of Naruto Shippudden, -because I stopped around 6 years ago-, I DO NOT FANCY JAPANESE SONGS BEFORE THIS. I really don't. Japanese songs to me is like Chinese songs to Caucasians, I don't understand them but then I don't dislike them. I just couldn't find the way to listen to these songs until watching the Naruto Shippudden series and some of the theme songs grew into me. I started to listen to Japanese songs that are similar to the ones they have in their opening and ending.

Now, the funny things is that, how did Kishimoto decided to use Sukima Switch's Star Vessel?
I swear, this song is the most emotional and yet deeply meaningful to me. The song does not go along with simple words like “I love you,” "Let's fight for love," but something like "Why? I wonder why we cry when we’re born. Some day will our tears flow until it reaches the stars."Meaningful, isn't it? It's also dreamy at the same time. When I'm listening to it, I feel like I'm in a movie drama or something.

Yes, they do have good taste in most of the music.

So now, if you're curious about the song and want to know what it's about, well, here's the english translated lyrics for you so you can understand while listening to it. You can read the Japanese and Romanji lyrics here too!

Why? I wonder why
we cry when we’re born
some day will our tears flow
until it reaches the stars
Why? I wonder why
we know how to shed tears
despite not being taught how
This overflow of teardrops
shed incessantly is proof of love/affection
guides gently and softly
to go and come back
From heart to body
From body to heart
continuous pattern
of many intertwined spirals
One by one
Future can be seen in
the sky we’re looking at
look, look to the universe
Why? I wonder why
the moon always,
without saying anything,
is shining light upon the darkness
Why? I wonder if
knowing that there’s a limit,
it makes these heartbeats
completely futile
the size of the vessel
carried in one’s chest
is not what’s of value
It’s if inside exists
the want to experience life
No matter how hard you look
if you try to see by yourself
you won’t be able to see in the haze
end up completely losing sight of them
At the end of your searching for something lost/desired
if completely scattered
learn by watching others
by doing this, you’ll be fine
When talking about living/existing
surely, little by little
parted with many things
after parting with the last one
i’ll be near, and cause/give you tears
and they will be happy tears
from heart to body
from body to heart
continuous pattern
of many succeeding spirals
doing this repeatedly
until the time comes i say no way
the entire scenery before my eyes
now, the universe is here
the universe is here - (source: Naruto Wikia)
Now, isn't this song lovely?
If you like it too then why not go ahead and watch the last movie of Naruto?
I would guarantee that it is less childish as they all have became about 20 years old in the movie, so it makes em all pretty matured.

Now that I'm done expressing my love to this song, I'll continue filling my ears with the lovely melodies of this song~

I love this song-ttebayo!
